PETERBOROUGH, ON - The Peterborough Petes saw their record fall to 3-2 on the season as they dropped a 4-3 decision to the Kingston Frontenacs last night at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
The first period was all Petes as they came out of the gates flying and looked to be on their way to a convincing victory. Brett Theberge got things started for the maroon and white as he capitalized on a beautiful passing play by Justin Larson and Zack Kassian. Just 3 minutes later, Adam Sedlak broke down the wing and snuck a wrist shot over the shoulder of Frontenacs goaltender John Cullen for a 2-1 lead. Strong play by Jason Missiaen helped the Petes take that lead into the dressing room.
The second period only saw one tally by Corey Durocher of the Kingston Frontenacs as the two teams went into the dressing room deadlocked at 2 after 40 minutes of play.
Both teams had several opportunities to seal the deal in the third period. The Frontenacs capitalized first 4:19 into the period when Ethan Werek banged home a rebound to put his team ahead 3-2. However, just 4 minutes later on a powerplay, Petes' captain Zack Kassian took a slapshot from the blueline that found its way to the back of net to bring the teams back even.
The game would remained tied until the 13:43 mark of the third period when Jaroslav Kruzik scored just as a Peterborough penalty expired and that would eventually be the final.
Kingston's Charles Sarault earned first star honours with his three assist while the Petes' Jason Missiaen stopped 48 shots to earn himself 2nd star honours, and captain Zack Kassian's effort with 1 goal and 1 assist saw him receive 3rd star honours. The hardest working Pete of the game was Brett Theberge.
Next action for the Petes is Thursday, October 1st when they host the Oshawa Generals in round two of the 115 series.
